Hello Friends,
I, Ravi Shah (Sr. WordPress Developer – Elsner Technologies Pvt. Ltd.) would like to share an amazing experience of WordCamp Mumbai 2017. WordCamp is great platform for WordPress Lovers to share and explore things related to WordPress. From WordPress Designers, Developers, Bloggers to Entrepreneurs, everyone is gathers for discussing, sharing knowledge/ideas and know how to establish networking/relation for their personal, professional and WordPress growth.
Elsner Team is privileged to be a part of such events. Firstly, we visited Wordcamp Udaipur on January 28, 2017 at P.P. Singhal Auditorium, UCCI Bhawan, Udaipur. It was really great experience for us to learn new things about WordPress like “Supercharge your Career with Blogging”, “Extending the WordPress Customizer”, “The Importance of Providing Great Product Support – Victoria Park”, “Contributing to WordPress.tv – Nirmal Desai”, “The GPL: What It Means (and What It Doesn’t) – Nancy Thanki” etc. We really enjoyed the learning.
What now? Journey did not end there as we came to know that next Wordcamp is organized at Mumbai and was gonna held on 25th & 26th March, 2017 at Manik Sabhagriha, Bandra Reclamation. We were curious to be a part of this event and waiting for it by keeping countdown timer on mind. And of course, Mumbai nagari, the city of “Unchi Unchi Buildings and Sapno ki duniya”, was my dream place earlier. And finally the day came when I accomplished my dream with my colleague fellas. We left from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, started our journey towards Mumbai for attending this Event. Event was for two days from 9:00 to 5:30.
First Day (25th March 2017):
We started our day with blessing of Lord Ganesha at Siddhivinayak Temple, Mumbai. Then we reached at Event venue. It’s good and big auditorium. We completed registration process and then had our breakfast.
We learn and know lot of things from all sessions. I would like to brief about some sessions which I found really helpful.
Session: How to get (more) involved with WordPress by Rocío Valdivia
In this we learnt why we need to involve more with WordPress. By attending such events, we become part of WordPress Community and work with Professional Developers, Designers around world. We can know what’s going with WordPress core development and future plans of WordPress. In this, I got knowledge about slack channels and how it help us to communicate with WordPress contributors.
Session: Writing PHP – The WordPress Way! by Rahul Bansal
Rahul has very nicely explained the importance of WordPress standard over traditional way of writing code in PHP. It’s true that WordPress is developed using core php, but there are a lot more things improved in WordPress functions by enhancing featured in core functions. Writing proper functions of WordPress will really help you to develop secure sites with better performance. “
Session: Glimpse of WP-CLI by Anand Thakkar
CLI (Command Line Interface) Frankly speaking few developers are not much interested to work with commands. But from this session we learned how WP-CLI help us to work with WordPress by saving time. It’s a great tool to manage your sites easily by performing various task in fraction of seconds. Using this, we can automate our routine basic tasks which we are habituated in routine work.
Second Day (26th March 2017):
Session: Why Business Writing is important? by Fairy Dharawat
Fairy has a very well explanation on how we can save time and get things done by professional business writing. She explain how business writing can help users to understand things clearly and quickly. Tips which I like is “Because is the magic word” and “Give strong reason & be reasonable”. If you are sending email think twice why you are sending that email and what answers you are expecting from that email.
Session: Know your customers by Shailee Sheth
She has discussed about few common things related to customers. For every business, its most important thing to understand customer and its requirement. She focused on topics like “if want to get good business from customer first try to understand its goal”. Try to give him/her reasonable solution as per his/her expectation within time frame and proper budget. It’s necessary to know your customer and its business which really help us to provide better solution.
Other then sessions:
We met new people/speakers/sponsors and did good interaction with them. We had also enjoyed good snacks and lunch. We got good WordPress swag ( t-shirt, mug ) for have good memory of this camp.
After Wordcamp:
We had an awesome experience of roaming/exploring Mumbai via local trains, taxis etc. We have visited SiddhiVinayak Temple, Nariman Point, Gateway of India, Fashion Street, Juhu Beach etc. Now very eagerly waiting for next WordCamp Journey in our hometown Ahmedabad. And last but not least Thank you Everyone to give your valuable time to read this blog. I hope you liked to read my story.
